🌎Earth Day is celebrated each year on the 22nd April, more than a billion people around the world mark the day by taking part in activities like litter picking and planting trees. Our planet is amazing but needs our help to thrive!😊

Earth Day was first started in America in 1970 as a national event, it was aimed at raising issues like air quality regulations and factory waste disposal as, at the time, environmental protection the United States didn't exist!πŸ™„
Around 20 million Americans took part in the first Earth Day and by the end of that year the U.S. government had created the Environmental Protection Agency and by 1990 Earth Day had become an international event!πŸ˜ƒ

Did you know that it can take over 450 years for a plastic bottle to break down? Shocking isn't it! So, instead of just throwing them away why not make use of them - start seeds in them for example instead of buying new plastic pots!😳

It's estimated that around 15 billion trees in the world are cut down each year - so, why not plant a tree, it doesn't have to be a big tree! They're so important to our eco system, absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen for us to breathe. They also provide habitats for animals and birds, they can also provide much needed shade in warmer months. 🌳🌳

Other small things you can do to conserve energy - turn the lights off when they're not needed!πŸ’‘πŸ™„

Turn the tap off when brushing your teeth and shower for less time! You'll be surprised how much water you can save!πŸ’¦πŸšΏπŸ›
