Autumn - a great time to sow your wildflowers! πΊπΈπΌ
Celebrate autumn!
Now is a great time to sow wildflowers for an early spring display! πΊπΈπΌ
Here are a few tips to help you keep on top of what can be a very busy time in the gardening calendar -
β’ Rake up leaves regularly to maintain a healthy lawn. They can be composted or spread on the flower beds - either way they'll rot down, providing much needed nourishment for the soil ππ
β’ Unless we get a lot of rain, continue to water any plants in containers and pots, maximising their flowering time πΈπΌ
β’ If you have Lavender, now is the time to cut back. Once the flowers have started to fade take off two to three centimetres to tidy up the shrub - however, if this is its first year, let the plant establish and cut back in year two.
β’ Trim any herbs to encourage a fresh flush of growth - this prevents them going to seed, which can reduce flavour! π±
β’ With the nights drawing in, maybe add some solar lights to your garden or patio - they really can bring a glow to your outside space πβοΈ
β’ Lastly, don't forget that September is an excellent month for sowing wildflowers - pleasantly warm ground and the prospect of rain means it's a win/win for the wildflowers! πΊπΈπΌ
