Now's a great time to sow wildflowers to help the bees! - click here

๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒผ How and when to sow my wildflowers?

March to May or September to October are ideal times to sow wildflowers. Although wildflowers can thrive in poor ground, they do need fine soil to germinate and grow initially, this is because they have limited energy. Once they start to grow they need to break through the soil surface quickly to reach the light so the green shoots and leaves can provide the young plant with energy.๐ŸŒฑ

If there are big clumps of earth or stones, the emerging seedlings have to divert wasting vital energy that could kill them before they're able to reach the light. ๐ŸŒž

Here's a step by step guide to sowing your seeds -

โ€ข Prepare the bed before sowing on a dry day, break down any large clumps using the back of a fork and remove any weeds and large stones.
โ€ข Rake over to create a fine soil.
โ€ข Sow your seeds - tip them into your hand and sow individually or in 'pinches'.
โ€ข Lightly cover with soil.

โ€ข Lightly water the area.
