Bee knowledgeable! …🐝🐝
🐝Here are just a few interesting facts about bees -
🐝 bees go through four life stages - egg, larva, pupa and adult
🐝 they carry pollen back to the hive in special pollen ‘baskets’ on their legs
🐝 bees don’t see the colour red, they can see yellow and orange but not the whole red spectrum that we see😔. They see ultraviolet, blue and green.
🐝 bees are the only insects that produce food for humans
- honey!😋
🐝 the queen’s primary role is to lay eggs, she can live for up to five years while workers live for a few weeks or months!
🐝 bees can fly up to 15mph and visit thousands or flowers in a single day
🐝 bees have five eyes and their eyes are sensitive to ultraviolet light
🐝 worker bees do a Waggle Dance to let other bees know where nectar is
🐝 if the queen bee dies in a honeybee hive, the workers can create a new queen bee. They select a young larva and feed it special royal jelly.
🐝 the buff-tailed bumblebee has the brain the size of a poppy seed and scientists have managed to train them to score a goal in ‘bee football’!
🐝 bees actually have four wings! Two on each side hook together to form one larger pair when flying and then unhook when they’re not flying!
🐝The most conspicuous bee species in the UK are bumblebees, most of which live socially in colonies of up to 400 individuals.
🐝Honeybees, which are farmed for their honey and wax are probably the most numerous living in colonies with up to 40,000 bees!
Hopefully, this gives a small insight into this very valuable and interesting creature 🐝🐝
