Autumn is a great time to sow wildflowers - for an early spring display 🌺🌼🌸

Wildlife gardening - what is it?

With approximately 24 million gardens in the UK, together they make up a vast ‘living landscape’ - so how we care for them can make a huge difference to the natural world!

Why not ‘go wild’ in your outside space - large, small, pot or window box! What you do can play an important part in the wider network of natural spaces inhabited by various creatures! Your garden could be a ‘stepping stone’ to other urban ‘green’ spaces and nature reserves!😀

Bats🦇 hedgehogs 🦔 stag beetles🪲 and song thrushes are all on the decline in the UK😔. However, if we manage our with wildlife in mind, these creatures and many more will find refuge. It’s not hard when you put your mind to it! Just one thing can make a big difference.

For instance -

Instead of using fencing, why not plant a hedge as a boundary - providing shelter and food for many birds and insects🦋🐞🕷️
Or create a pond or water feature, not necessarily for fish but for newts, pond skaters and dragon flies - to name but a few!😀
Plant a ‘wild’ area, this doesn’t have to be large, even pots will do. Why not forgo some of the fancy, pretty annual bedding plants that provide little or no sustenance for insects and replace them with wildflowers that will provide nectar rich flowers so needed by our pollinators!🐝🐝🦋
